Models

Models for Photo shoots.

I did not hire any models for photos, however a selection of my photos do include people, for example;
*The Macmillan Man
*Graffiti artist *Painter
*Woman knitting on the bus
*People lined up outside The Crucible

I didn't request for these people to show up and do what they were doing for the photos. These were people who I met whilst taking photos, and I politely explained the project to all of them and asked them if I could take a photo of them as I found them and the task they were doing creative. So my strategy for taking photos of people was to get verbal agreement from people who were willing to take part.

Although they all agreed for me to use their image for my college work, many of my angles were done so that their face wasn't seen fully as to protect their identities, (this didn't apply for The Macmillian Man, as a local celebrity he is easily recognisable and has his photo taken on a regular basis).

I didn't get the permission of people lined up outside The Crucible for me to take photos of them, as there were too many to get a verbal agreement from all of them, which also seems unlikely. However, I still took a photo of them as many people passing by took photos of the busy scene, as it's understandable that people would want to capture the unusual scene. Again, my angles were taken to avoid taking photos of people's faces. No one objected to me taking these photos and it showed people's strong appreciation for theatre.

Outside the train station I spotted a busking accordion player. I asked if I could take his photo. He said yes, but only for an amount of money which I found too high of a cost, so I didn't pay and respectfully didn't take his photo for the project.

LO2 KTA3 ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed

ISO Settings measure the film speed and photo's sensitivity to the light. This also improves the photo's lighting.

The aperture, shown as F.Stop, gives information on how much space will be captured in the picture and how much lighting will be let through, a small number usually focusing on one thing whilst a larger number is usually used for a landscape shot with many features included. More lighting will be let through with a larger aperture number.

Shutter speed, showing how quickly, or slowly, it takes to to capture an image, a smaller number being a longer amount of time than a bigger number as it shows how much of second it takes.

Lo2 KTA3 Risk Assessment

Below are two risk assessment I made to keep myself and the camera safe and protected when going out to take pictures. I made two as I believed I'd lost my original one, but later found after I'd made another.

Hazard
Risk
Persons at risk
Control measures/procedures to be in place
Action Points
Person Responsible
In place (tick)
Bad weather conditions
Could cause camera to get damaged by rain.
I could injure myself by slipping if floor is wet from rain.
Me
Avoid going out on days with a forecast of heavy rain.
Wear appropriate footwear to avoid slipping and take camera case and umbrella to keep it out of rain.
Check weather reports

Crossing roads to get to locations
Getting hit by vehicle when crossing the road to take a picture. Busy roads all over City Centre, especially near Matilda street, Train station, and Arundel Gate.
Me, people in vehicle.
Never take picture whilst on road.
Take care when crossing road.
Check both ways when crossing.
Find safe place to cross.

Going out with expensive camera equipment
Could have equipment stolen, mugged.
Could damage equipment.
-
Make sure that I’m not on my own, makes it less likely that I’ll be mugged and have someone to help if someone does try to mug me.
Be careful with camera equipment.
Go out and take pictures with a group, or at least another person.
Go out during the day, less likely to be mugged.
Keep camera on safety strap around neck or wrist. Best to keep in case if I’m not using it.
Me
Mugger?
